1/144 Space Shuttle Main Engines

SKU: 1504

The RS-25 rocket engine (most commonly known as the Space Shuttle Main Engine or SSME, is one of the most efficient and powerful liquid oxygen/hydrogen rocket engines ever produced. It is also one of the most complex. While the larger Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) provided most of the shuttle’s thrust at liftoff, most of the Orbiter’s speed to get to orbit was provided by the 3 SSMEs. Fueled by the large External Tank, each SSME provides around 500,000 pounds (2 megaNewtons) of thrust. 4 of these same engines will be used on NASA’s new Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

This kit provides 3 SSME’s in 3D printed resin. The 3D printing process allows for amazing detail in the pipework around the engine that can’t be obtained from injection molding or resin casting. The engines have been fit checked on the Revell kit, but should easily fit any 1/144 kit.
